Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
